The freedom and right of communities to save, use and exchange their seeds are central pillars of people’s Food Sovereignty. But today, peasants and farmers face extreme threats from the privatisation of seeds. One institution is at the heart of this: the International Union for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants (UPOV).On UPOV’s 60th birthday, on 2 December 2021, we want to say NO TO UPOV! During that entire week, networks and social movements across the world will be calling for the dismantlement of UPOV, drawing attention to its role in privatising seeds and threat to food sovereignty. Through this, we want to reinforce the resistance to national or regional seed laws, highlight examples of pro-peasant seed legislation and expose the role of free trade agreements in pushing seed laws all over the planet. To get involved, please follow this link : shorturl.at/abfoLand join https://web.facebook.com/groups/1247839988978502UPOV privatises seeds and threatens food sovereignty.
