Photo essays Since the start of 2007 we have started experimenting and publishing recent activities and topical information with the help of a camera, which we call "photo essays". Do let us know what you think via our feedback form. We currently have four photo essays: (Please note that these pages may take a long time to download if you do not have a fast internet connection) • Bir, Himachal Pradesh, India - Bir is a small village in the Kangra district of the North Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. It is in the Deer Park Institute located at Bir that GRAIN along with its Indian collaborators – Kalpavriksh environment action group and other friends organised a North India level regional workshop on the “Biodiversity Regulation – Legality & Reality” through 17-18 May 2007. (Published: June 2007) • Mobile Seed Festival - Every year in mid-January India-wide there are celebrations around the harvest of crops, one such festival is the Makar Sankrati. (Published: June 2007) • A genebank in tatters - in which we look at the nearlly complete destruction of the Philippine national genebank, the National Plant Genetic Resources Laboratory. (Published: January 2007) • Hybrid rice in China - a great leap forward? Hybrid rice has been pushed in China as a means to lift farmers out of poverty.
